Gel polish manicure in other words Shellac is by far the most popular service in most of nail salons these days but on the other hand beauticians worst nightmare. Why?
The most common problem that beauticians are facing and have to deal with is chipping or lifting the product from the natural plate.
In this article you will get to know steps how to do shellac manicure correctly and how to avoid common mistakes so it can last on your nails for longer. Remember!!Properly done manicure should last at least 3 weeks.
So let’s start
The First and most common mistake why the gel polish won’t hold is the wrong preparation of a nail plate. So let’s have a look how to do it right?
The preparation should start by using hand disinfecting product I personally use Chemisept Vir+ few sprays will remove unneeded bacteria and get hands ready. Next step is to push the cuticles and then cutting the skin excess with cuticle scissors. After dealing with cuticles gently matt the nail plate and bring it to desired length and shape by filling. To guarantee good adhesion of the product don’t forget to effectively dehydrate and degrease the nail plate. I’m using SPN Clean&Prep liquid. Do it by applying small amount of the product on the Lint free wipe and wipe down the nail plate.
Now with such well-prepared nail plate we can move to our next step which is choosing and applying the right primer.
The SPN Company I’m working on provides two types of a primers and because every customer nail plate differ we can choose the one which is best suitable for them. Non Acid one which is extremely delicate and works as double-side adhesive tape which additionally increase the adhesion of our hybrid varnish. It’s mostly suitable and recommended for people with very sensitive and prone to allergies nails. If you need something stronger Then Acid Primer comes handy. It serves the same purpose as non-acid but it’s stronger as it contains percentage of acid methacrylate. It’s extremely important to be careful and apply only small amount on the nail surface otherwise we might burn the skin and cause irritation and discomfort for our customer.
Remember! Both primers are good and increase adhesion, eliminate the risk of lifting and guarantee styling durability. Which one you decide to go for will strictly depends on the condition of your customer nails. So make sure you chose the right one but most importantly don’t forget to apply it!
Another very important factor that will make our stylization to last longer is Base Coat. Again the Base Coat same as previously talked Primer will depends on our customer type of nails.
Luckily the SPN Company that I’m working on is offering wide range of different Base Coats to suits every nail types. I’m normally using their classic thin base 500 which is perfect solution for healthy, strong and well-shaped nail plate. The Base Coat solution for weak, soft, damaged nails I have two recommendation. First Bonder Base 701 which is thick, will repair all the nail defects, level nail unevenness and if needed allows me to extend nail on the form up to 4mm. Second one is Silky Base. This Base will harden even very delicate and problematic nail plate by creating durable and hard coating on it.
Additional bonus is content of vitamin E and calcium that has miraculous impact on strengthening your natural nail plate. Base is very thick, self-levelling and really easy to work on.
Reminder! All Base Coat need to be cured in UV Lamp so let’s not forget about it.
Ok so Base Coat topic is covered. What are other important steps that have impact on longevity of our nail stylization?
I would say poor curing of the product. What I mean by that?
Every product that needs to be cured under the UV Lamp needs time to cure to become strong and durable. That’s why common mistake is finishing curing time way too soon, or have lamp with too low UV Light power. So when buying a lamp make sure you check if curing power is enough and for gel polish minimum is 24W.
Make also sure that you finish your stylization by applying the Top coat for maximum protection. Be aware and check the expiry date on of all your products as that’s also have a crucial impact on longevity of your stylization.
I think that I’ve underlined the most common mistakes so right now.
Remember to follow those few simple rules
· Correct preparation of nail plate
· Application of Primer
· Application of Base Coat
· Correct curing time
· and of course Top coat
And then you can be sure that your gel polish manicure will stay beautiful without chipping for weeks.
